Calida Financial has become a new acquiring partner for European payment scheme, Bluecode. Bluecode is an open mobile payment system made in Europe, for all Europeans. In July 2025, Calida Financial joined Bluecode as an issuing partner offering a European-wide prepaid solution for users. Now, Calida is also an acquirer for transactions made using Bluecode – delivering affordable, reliable, real-time payments for its merchants.

The European payment provider Bluecode introduces the Payment Interoperability Hub, a platform that connects mobile payment systems across Europe and beyond.

The Payments Group (TPG), has become the first pan-European issuer of the Bluecode payment scheme. The partnership gives residents of all Eurozone countries access to a prepaid-based mobile payment solution. It is a wholly European-made payments service designed for Europeans, as an alternative to the dominant international card schemes.

The European payment service Bluecode and the leading provider of in-car payment and digital fueling, ryd, are now collaborating to further digitize payments at gas stations across Germany and Austria. Drivers can already pay for their refueling directly via the Bluecode app, and soon through other Bluecode-compatible apps—easily, quickly, and without cash or cards.

The European payment system Bluecode will soon be accepted worldwide at over 70 million merchant locations through the Discover® Global Network.

European mobile payment system Bluecode is introducing contactless NFC payments, expanding its offering for iOS and Android devices as a complementary technology to existing barcode and QR code solutions. This allows users of Bluecode partners, such as issuing banks, to make secure, contactless payments simply by holding their smartphones at payment terminals. Bluecode NFC is part of the Bluecode SDK (Software Development Kit), which can be easily integrated into apps from banks, but also into apps from other partners, such as retailers.

Bluecode and Bancomat, both members of EMPSA (European Mobile Payment Systems Association), are enabling users of their payment systems to pay seamlessly within each other’s acceptance network. This is made possible by a technical, commercial, and legal standard defined by EMPSA, which creates the prerequisites for cross-border interoperability of various payment systems.

Bluecode, an open QR code payment scheme, is the first Alipay+ partner to strike an agreement for interoperable mobile payments, enabling Alipay+ merchants to accept mobile payments from over 300 participating banks based in Germany and Austria.
The payment solution will be active in Europe for UEFA EURO 2024 and will be expanded globally over time, thus creating a bridge for Bluecode users to pay at up to 88 million Alipay+ merchants around the world.
